Dr. Smirnova is a professor at SD Mines and the director of the NSF IUCRC Center (www.GreenCEPS.com). She has over 200 publications and has co-edited two books focused on fuel cell and battery technology. In collaboration with Syracuse, Cornell, and Northeastern University sites, and with financial support from industry, the Center develops next-generation lithium and sodium-ion batteries, as well as battery recycling. The lead institution, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, features a specialized dry room facility for materials synthesis and battery manufacturing. Furthermore, it offers a broad range of in-situ/operando battery testing capabilities from ThermoFisher Scientific. This includes TEM/EDX, SEM/EDX, and a five-technique spectroscopy platform based on the simultaneous testing of battery components by XPS, Raman, REELS, UPS, and ISS (https://www.greenceps.com/newtech).
