NAATBatt Publishes Market Study Report on LFP CAM and pCAM Opportunities in North America
One of NAATBatt’s most valuable activities is its publication of free, private market study reports for its members. Three to four times a year, NAATBatt uses its membership dues to commission studies of different parts of the advanced battery market. These studies are intended to give a competitive advantage to NAATBatt member firms and provide a tangible benefit of NAATBatt membership.
NAATBatt has published its second market study report of 2026. The report, commissioned from CRU Group, is titled “Opportunities for North America LFP CAM and pCAM”. The report examines the fastest growing area of the lithium-ion battery market: lithium iron phosphate batteries (LFP). Today China completely dominates the production and supply chain for LFP batteries and their cathode active materials (CAM).
The study seeks to determine how North American companies can possibly compete with Chinese companies in the LFP CAM and pCAM markets. Specifically, NAATBatt asked CRU Group to answer four questions:
- What are the key trends and market opportunities for the North American LFP CAM and pCAM industry and its suppliers?
- How is North America positioned from a cost-competitiveness perspective and what can domestic producers do to mitigate costs or create competitive advantage?
- What are the most recent and impactful advancements in LFP technology, and how can North American companies access relevant IP or develop IP-independent strategies?
- What does the North American and global supply chain look like for LFP CAM and what are the risk and opportunities for North American companies?
The 112-page report provides some excellent answers. Although it pulls no punches in describing the challenges to entering this market, the report outlines several possible points of entry and business models that might allow a North American company to become a competitive player over time.
NAATBatt is proud to make this resource available to its members and hopes they will find it valuable. Any individual company wanting to commission a comparable study from a first-class consulting firm such as CRU Group would need to pay ten times or more what it would cost that company just to join NAATBatt and get the study as a free. And with a membership you get 3-4 such reports per year.
For employees of NAATBatt member firms to access the report, just go to the Resources page of the NAATBatt website and click on “Market Report”. See: https://www.naatbatt.org/resources. For those whose employers are not yet members, you can see the LFP report and all past and future market study reports by simply having your employer join NAATBatt.
